JR Art Lab

THU – JR Screenwriter 8 – 12 yrs (FALL 2024)

Theme of this term: Horror genre.

As we enter a new term, our online JR Screenwriter course delves into the spine-chilling world of horror storytelling, perfectly timed with the fast-approaching Halloween season. This Fall, as jack-o’-lanterns flicker and shadows lengthen, we’re focusing on creating terrifying antagonists and exploring the psychological depths of fear that make Halloween so thrilling.

We invite students to master the art of crafting suspenseful tales that send shivers down the spine, where bone-chilling monsters and the exploration of primal fears play a central role, bringing a touch of terror and suspense to the course. Our aim is to guide students in constructing compelling narratives within the horror genre, infusing the storytelling craft with elements of dread and shock that resonate with the Halloween spirit. Whether it’s exploring the disturbing motivations of a supernatural entity, navigating the psychological torment of victims, or weaving through the dark corners of a haunted setting, this course opens the door to a world of nightmarish storytelling possibilities. Key topics covered include developing terrifying antagonists, building tension and suspense, and the art of seamlessly incorporating shocking twists and scares synonymous with horror and Halloween traditions.

Throughout the course, participants will actively engage in practical exercises, fostering experience in script creation, editing, and the collaborative dynamics of team-based horror writing. As Halloween approaches, students will have the opportunity to craft stories that capture the essence of the season, potentially creating scripts for short horror films or Halloween-themed productions. By the end of the course, students will be well-equipped to contribute to the thrills and chills of the Halloween season with your own spine-tingling tales.
