WED – JR Video Editor 8 – 12 yrs (Fall 2022)
Video Editing skills have never been so practical and popular. Students will be learning the Language of Editing, editing techniques, colour correction and more. Participants will be working on DaVinci Resolve 18 to create videos with their own styles.
DaVinci Resolve is a Hollywood-grade video editing software. It’s also free to download and cross-platform. Check out https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/ to learn more about the software.
We will be using free stock images and video footage, so don’t worry if you don’t have a camera or video recording device.

TUE – JR Screenwriter 13 – 17 yrs (Winter 2023)
This course is designed to replicate the scriptwriting process of the film industry. Students will learn how to write and edit screenplays for film and television across different genres. The online classrooms are styled after industry writing rooms with table-reads. This course will also cover knowledge including cinematography and storyboarding.
Table-read process will be recorded and uploaded to JR Art Lab YouTube channel.

THU – JR Photographer 13 – 17 yrs (Fall 2022)
In this term students will focus on an introduction to digital photography. Students can expect to learn how to make a correct exposure, shoot in challenging lighting situations, make strong compositions. This course will also include some photography hacks. Student will get plenty of hands-on experience and practical photography knowledge.
As Fall approaches, this term will explore Natural Photography, with a focus on Fall colours. We will also bring back our iconic Halloween photoshoot and Christmas Lights photography.

MON – JR Photographer 8 – 12 yrs (Winter 2023)
In this term students will focus on an introduction to digital photography. Students can expect to learn how to make a correct exposure, shoot in challenging lighting situations, make strong compositions. This course will also include some photography hacks. Student will get plenty of hands-on experience and practical photography knowledge.
As winter approaches, this term will explore Snow Photography. Let’s summon the magic of winter wonderland. Winter is also an ideal time to shoot minimalist photography. Last but not least, we will use Abstract Photography as a method to express ideas and emotions.

SAT – JR Podcaster 10+ yrs (Fall 2022)
Our JR Podcaster course is designed for storytellers who would like to work behind the camera, yet maintain creative control over their stories.
There are plenty of resources about the technical aspects of making a podcast: best microphones and recorders etc. But very few focus on the creative part and the process of putting it together.
Students will be guided through the fundamental aspects of Fiction Storytelling Podcast, including podcast scriptwriting, voice coaching, sound recording, music and sound effects selections as well as audio editing. We encourage our young podcasters to create a particular story, viewpoint, message or experience. Participants are expected to complete and publish their original piece of audio drama by the end of the course. Join us and let your voice be heard!

WED – JR Documentarian 12 – 17 yrs (Fall 2022)
In 2021, My Octopus Teacher won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, making a win for Netflix in that category for the second year in a row and third time in the last four years. When it comes to producing documentaries, Netflix is a force to be reckoned with. After watching a Netflix documentary, you start to notice a similar style that carries through each one.
This term we will look into the magic components behind Netflix documentaries. And that’s not all, we are going to write our very own NETFLIX style documentary and produce a trailer for it. Student will be guided through the fundamental aspects of documentary filmmaking, including researching skills and camera angles, footage selection as well as editing. Students are encouraged to creates a particular story, viewpoint, message or experience.
Due to the complex nature of documentary practice we will only accept students at least 12 years of age.

Jul 18 – 22 ~ The Sounds of My Story
This camp is designed for storytellers who would like to work behind the camera, yet maintain creative control over their stories.
There are plenty of resources about the technical aspects of making an audio drama: best microphones and recorders etc. But very few focus on the creative part and the process of putting it together. Students will be guided through the fundamental aspects of audio drama, including scriptwriting, voice coaching, sound recording, as well as audio editing.
And…that’s not all! We are going to collect sounds from our daily activities and environment around us. Campers will then learn to compose a backing track for the intro, with the sounds they gather. More importantly, no music instrument or previous music knowledge required.

In today’s commercial economy, it’s an essential skill to market and sale a product or even yourself. When it comes to advertising, video is a versatile and engaging content format that not only gives us a real-life picture of what is going on; it’s also easy to share across multiple platforms. Audiences like it because it’s easy to digest, entertaining and engaging.
In this camp, we will equip the young generation with video-advertising skills. Campers will learn to design an advertising mood-board based on given products, then turn it into a unique promotional video. You can’t miss this workshop if you want to be an entrepreneur, or simply because you enjoy watching commercials.
Art is a spiral shaped pathway. Returning students are welcomed back as the learning process requires every artist to visit creative fundamentals many times in order to grow their skills. Mastery is accomplished through repetition and discipline. At JR Art Lab we aim to create diversity of subject matter to make learning more exciting and engaging. Looking at the fundamentals from this new perspective may just do the trick.
