Week 4 ~ 3D Architecture ( 13-17 yrs )
This class will be a unique study adventure for students wishing to learn about building 3d architecture. From simple houses to multi-story buildings. Every green screen shot needs environment/3d Models to match/fill the scene in films and tv productions . If games are more you style then look at the complex 3D cities of some of your favourite games.
In this workshop we will be creating some basic scenes to learn about the modelling process. We will begin modelling a small house with rooms and internal structures and progress to a subway scene and a large city. We will then look at textures and lighting the scene before rendering it as a digital image worthy of your portfolio. If you want to make your own scenes for movies of games with VFX this is the place to begin. Students will also be introduced to stock 3D websites that will help fill out their scenes with Creative Commons content.
This class is suitable for any experience level. Students will learn the essential skills of planning and executing a digital creative giving them the valuable insight into the self discipline required to become a successful and skilled 3D artist.
Week 8 ~ Alien Worlds 2D x 3D ( 8-12 yrs )
In this fun filled week of Digital Arts we will fuse both 3D and 2D together to learn about how these images can play so well together. After constructing a simple scene in 3d we will render a super high res picture to take into Affinity Photo and Paint up into a finished Artwork. This process is one often used in the video game and animation industry to save time and improve the quality of the concept art. This class is an advanced class and it is require that you have taken 3D either in the summer or in a previous regular program term here at Jr Art Lab.
This class is suitable for intermediate experience level. Students should have an understanding of either digital painting or Blender 3D in order to be able to combine these two mediums. We recommend that you can take a previous workshop with either digital painting or Blender 3D before enrolling in this workshop.
Week 7 ~ Speed Painting ( 8-12 yrs )
Speed Painting is a really useful skill in the games and animation industry. It’s like the digital version of life drawing. Timed artworks that are created in an highly explorative way to investigate possibilities and potential creative directions. In this workshop students will be creating a few different speed paintings to suit fantasy games. This is ideal for those already experienced with digital art who are looking to develop their decision making skill and practice fundamental of digital arts. Working with Light & Shadow, forms and concept art brushes we will make a huge mess and then refine it down to something that looks visually interesting.

LIVE Online Workshop ~ No Bluffing Digital Painting (June 1 – 5)
This week we will paint the Scarborough Bluffs.
Using digital reference photos students will learn how to paint digital landscapes using some exciting brushes that speed things along a little bit. Working with stamp brushes and making our own tree brush is a great way to build up a landscape quickly. A useful skill for the entertainment or games industry for sure.
This week we will create with Affinity Photo https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/ to learn this software and how to use it to create beautiful artworks. The gardens in the neighbourhood are full of beautiful tulips so get outside and take some photos. Students may wish to work with their own photo reference or work with ours. Tulips are simple shapes and a great way to learn about painting forms with light. They will also be a beautiful reminder of your garden for your walls or digital device wallpapers..
