TUE – JR Photographer 13 – 17 yrs (WINTER 2025)

Theme of this term: Still Life Photography.

In this online photography course, participants will explore the essentials of digital photography, with a special focus on mastering the artistry of still life composition. Throughout the term, students will develop crucial skills in achieving optimal exposure, capturing the subtle details of everyday objects, and transforming simple items into compelling visual narratives through thoughtful arrangement and lighting.

Participants will learn to see beauty in ordinary objects, discovering how to create extraordinary images from the mundane. The course will cover techniques for manipulating light to enhance texture and form, understanding color harmony and contrast in object arrangement, and effectively using negative space to create impactful compositions. They’ll master the art of object placement, learning how different arrangements can convey different moods and stories. The course will also delve into specific techniques for various still life subjects, from food photography to product shots, including how to work with reflective surfaces, create dramatic shadows, and capture different textures – from the smooth gleam of glass to the rough tactility of fabric or natural materials.

This online course aims to provide participants with both technical skills and artistic vision necessary to create captivating still life images. Students will learn to work with both natural and artificial lighting, master macro photography techniques for capturing intricate details, and develop their own distinctive style in still life composition. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to transform everyday objects into sophisticated photographic art, whether for commercial purposes or artistic expression.
