Creature Creative Lab
So Halloween is your favourite holiday of the year. You love all things spooky and creepy. Your sketchbook is the evolution of Dr. Frankenstein in 2023. This term we will look into all that horrible nasty Adams Family kind of madness and experiment in our lab creating a whole new race of creature to fright the sheet right off you bed. Students will learn about digital painting methods and develop their creepy creature artistic process. Students can work with Affinity Photo (paid app) or Krita.
NEW: this term we will support 2 painting apps Krita https://krita.org/en/post-download-page/ and Affinity Photo. Krita is free and open source but does not have all the bells and whistles of a Affinity Photo. It should be ok for new students. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/

MON – JR 3D Artist 10+ yrs (Fall 2022)
This term students will be guided on how to sculpt animals using Blender 3D. www.blender.org this open source software is pretty sophisticated and capable of amazing things in the skilled users hands. Specifically this term we will look into animals and their anatomy. Learning the anatomy of animals will help guide us how to produce more realistic looking forms in our sculpting. Where do muscles cause bulges in the tigers legs. How big is a Rhino’s butt… hmm don’t tell me never thought about it. Students will need access to a laptop or desktop computer to join this session and a digital drawing tablet is recommended to get the most out of this experience.

FRI – JR Designer 13-17yrs (Fall 2022)
This term students will learn how to make designs inspired by animals. Animals are amazing and their diversity as a subject matter is challenging. Students will learn all the basic functions of vector design using AFFINITY DESIGNER using a desktop or laptop computer. From Pokémon to realistic animals its all possible with dedication and passion. After students have a handle on design, vector production process and software we will provide guidance on self initiated artworks toward the end of the term.

This term students will be guided on how to sculpt animals using Nomad Sculpt for iPad. This iPad software is pretty sophisticated and capable of amazing things in the skilled users hands. Check out #NomadSculpt. Specifically this term we will look into animals and their anatomy. Learning the anatomy of animals will help guide us how to produce more realistic looking forms in our sculpting. Where do muscles cause bulges in the tigers legs. Students will need access to a iPad to join this session and a digital drawing stylus or Apple Pencil is recommended to get the most out of this experience.

This term students will learn to study, paint and draw a variety of animals and wildlife. Students will be introduced to various wildlife artists from across the globe. Students will learn how to draw and paint in Affinity Photo using a laptop or desktop computer and a drawing tablet. After students have a handle on the painting process and software we will provide guidance on self initiated artworks toward the end of the term.
NB: You must have a copy of Affinity Photo and a drawing tablet to join this session.

Animals are amazing and their diversity as a subject matter is challenging. If we study a bit about the anatomy of animals we can learn how to create forms, shadow and light with more knowledge. This term students will learn to study, paint and draw a variety of animals and wildlife. Students will be introduced to various wildlife artists from across the globe. Students will learn how to draw and paint in PROCREATE using an apple pencil or stylus. After students have a handle on the painting process and software we will provide guidance on self initiated artworks toward the end of the term.

Jul 11 – 15 ~ Trolling Toronto
Learn or develop your 3d digital sculpting skills with Blender (www.blender.org) by making one of the happiest and most colourful little trollies in Toronto. This workshop will be teach students all about making meshes with metaballs. Metaballs are a simple way to block out primary forms for our models which when re-meshed can be refined into secondary and tertiary forms. Students Will also get some hands on experience preparing their Troll for printing. Each student will have their one Troll printed at the end of the week.
Jul 25 – 29 ~ Cyborg Compositing
Hmm I wonder what I would you look like with a cyborg hand? ooh maybe a metal arm or a lazer eye with heads up display (HUD) Well in this workshop we will explore some of the interesting developments in biotechnology and develop some composite concepts art to explore different characters. In this workshop students will work with affinity designer using photos from stock photography websites and images we shoot in the studio to produce a variety of production stills for our hypothetical film concept. “Upload XVII”
