In this workshop, we will create a series of unique floral designs using various graphic styles, including Floral Texts and Flower Portrait.
We will use a Free and Open Source Image Editor – GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). It is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. Check out https://www.gimp.org/ to learn more about the software.

Working with www.sketchbook.com and its great variety of watercolor brushes we will embark on an intergalactic journey of color and lights. Students will learn how to render forms like clouds and discover using different brushes to create a variety of marks in art making.
LIVE Online Workshop ~ Animate Neon Lights (May 11 – 15)

This is the digital skill you need to get you through more unforeseeable events in the future – Animate Neon Lights. In this course we will learn some basic motion graphics in DaVinci Resolve 16. Motion graphics are pieces of animation or digital footage which create the illusion of motion or rotation. We will create a series of projects including Star Wars Lightsaber effects (May the 4th be with you.), neon text animation and neon scribble animation.
DaVinci Resolve 16 (and 15) is a Hollywood-grade video editor. It’s also free to download and cross-platform. Students who enroll in this LIVE online workshop will be working on the Fusion feature to create their own visual effects. This is a great into to digital painting. It should be easy to follow and allow for a lot of exploring. Students will use www.sketchbook.com for drawing & painting which is free to download for PC, Mac, iPad and Android tablets.
If you happen to have more advanced software like Affinity Photo you are also welcome to use that during the workshop.
In Botanical Arts will study and create a variety of drawings from the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the botanists who traveled the world documenting new species of flora and fauna. These prints will make a lovely wall collection to decorate your living space or study desk. Students will also be shown some of the wondrous botanical sites and treasures available online for reference and download. This class is open to Adults and Children 8+ years.

This is the digital skill you need to get you through more unforeseeable events in the future – Visual Effects. Visual effects (commonly shortened to Visual FX or VFX) is the term used to describe any imagery created, altered, or enhanced for a film or other moving media that cannot be accomplished during live-action shooting. In this course we will learn some basic visual effects in DaVinci Resolve 16, including Clone Effect, Sky Replacement. Last but not least, we are going to add some FIRE to your film!

Each day we will have a short introduction to the works of theses famous artists and then produce a work that is inspired by their own unique style and visions.

This is the digital skill you need to get you through more unforeseeable events in the future – Create Cinemagraphs. Cinemagraphs are a magical hybrid of photography and video. It’s also called moving pictures. In a cinemagraph, one portion of the image is animated while the rest remains still. In this course we will learn some basic photo editing skills in PhotoPea. We then proceed to animating the photos in the video editing software DaVinci Resolve. Join us and bring your photos to life.
We will use a FREE online Photo Editor – Photopea. It is an user-friendly, Photoshop alternative application. Check out https://www.photopea.com/ to learn more about the program. We will also be using stock images for this course, so please do not worry if you don’t have a camera to take photos.

In this daily workshop we will learn how to implement the GRID METHOD for portrait painting. This is a great way to TRAIN YOUR EYE to see LIKE AN ARTIST. Seeing like an artist we have to ignore that this is a human head and look at the shapes, values and other elements to be able to render it with accuracy. If you would like to level up your drawing and painting skills this is a great way to go about it. If you already have a software like Affinity photo your welcome to use that but if your new to Jr Art Lab you can also use www.sketchbook.com for free on iPad, Mac or PC.. The skills we learn will apply to any software and even to traditional media.
LIVE Online Workshop ~ Style Me Photo Editing (April 20-24)

This is the digital skill you need to get you through more unforeseeable events in the future – Portrait Photo Editing. In this workshop, we will create a series of unique self-portraits using various graphic styles, including Caricature, Cartoon, Pop out effects and more.
We will use a Free and Open Source Image Editor – GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). It is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. Check out https://www.gimp.org/ to learn more about the software.
NB: If you would like to edit your own portraits, please have them ready before class. Portraits with neutral backgrounds are highly recommended. Don’t worry if you don’t have a camera, we will download some loyalty free portraits for you to practice.
LIVE Online Workshop ~ Digital Charcoal Animals (April 13-17)

In this class we will look at how we can make digital charcoal using Sketchbook, a free app made by Autodesk. www.sketchbook.com
We will have a look at adding a special brush pack that simulates the way charcoal work. We will have a look at some animals as references. This will be a fun and exploitative adventure into digital painting. We will also have little at home assignments you can do during your own time that we are sure you will enjoy and help expand your visual library.
