Week 4 ~ iPad Animation w/ Procreate
Procreate is fast filling many creatives need to make art on the go. The features the app has are right up there with desktop creative apps for digital painting. And, they just keep on adding more. In 2019 the Procreate studio added in the ability for the software to make animations. This special summer camp we will dive into the Animation features and related settings on the iPad app Procreate. You must have your own iPad to join this session and your ipad must be capable of running the version with animation feature. You can visit their website and check here at www.procreate.art

Week 3 ~ Anatomy of a Hero
Do you love Heroes & Heroines? Would you like to improve your figure drawing? In this summer camp we will do an intensive study of a Superhero’s and his/her poses. This camp will start off with an introduction to anatomy. We will learn some of the time tested proportions and tricks to remember the body shapes and structure. After this students will take turns pretending to be their favourite super hero in a pose while other students draw them. We will also learn to draw a short animation sequence and discuss the principles of animation.
Humans are key to drawing characters and designing costumes or fashion. Learning this skill is a vital part of many art carers including animation. This is also a great reason to spend a whole week drawing and mastering your favourite hero. Once you get one down it will be a hop and a skip to abstract those ideas onto other characters.. Working with superheroes is a great way to get the traditional figure drawing art skills across to kids using their favourite characters.

Week 2 ~ Gary The Garden Gnome
It’s now easier than ever to sculpt in Blender. Blender has grown into a huge collection of high-end 3D tools to rival the likes of Maya and Zbrush. The developers have added some amazing sculpting functionality in earlier versions and that has only grown with the addition of Dyntopo sculpting to give you more resolution only when you need it. We will cover all this in our workshop while sculpting our cool little Garden Gnome Character. Once the sculpting is done we will learn how to export the model for 3D printing before moving onto vertex painting while we wait for the prints. Vertex Painting is a fast way to block out your ideas and very often it is the first step towards a color & texture design.

Week 1 ~ Vintage Collage & Memes
The main feature of digital collage illustrations is that you don’t attribute them to a particular design style. Everything depends on the assets you use and the idea you finally come to, what gives freedom and passion for creating. Just try searching ‘digital collage’ on Google, and you’ll discover an endless flow of fascinating pieces, embracing brutalist, Scandi, Art Deco, polygonal art and many other genres.
In this summer camp we will work with vintage photos, storybook illustrations and all manner of imagery found and created to compose our own little collection of digital collage illustrations. This genre of creative is open to everyone and is a great place to start if you are looking to express yourself quickly or communicate and idea.
We will study a few digital collages and also take a look at Memes which may fall into the same genre of collage. Communicating something humorous or ironic to the viewer. A good collage can be worth a thousand words.

Digital Plein Air w/ ‘Procreate’
En plein air painting was popularized by the French impressionists during the latter half of the 19th century. En plein air is an expression meaning in the open air. Prior to this notion, artists typically painted in a studio, working from reference drawings. Landscape artists still work in the open air while others hike into nature with only a digital camera, returning to the comfort of their studios to paint from high-resolution photographs. Working live from nature and from a live model or subject are the best ways to develop our digital art skills. Learning to ‘see like an artist’ is one of the skills we must develop. In this week workshop we will visit various locations in our local area to study from life using our digital drawing devices. Students will learn about composition, color palettes, sketching, procreate brushes, Forms, Lights and shadow as well as have a nice day out in the local area.
